The Gruver schools were on Spring Break last week. We decided to take advantage. Ten of us braved the mountains of Colorado and went snow skiing. After we got back from skiing Ryan and I decided to travel to Austin to take in the High School State Boys Basketball Tournament. For those of you that think Gruver is in the middle of nowhere I will have you know that it is about halfway between Denver and Austin. It took us about nine hours to get to the ski slopes outside of Denver and it also took us about nine hours to drive from Gruver to Austin. Both trips were fun, but quite a bit different.
It takes work and patience for 10 people to stay together 3 nights in a 3-bedroom condominium. Everyone has to put his or her own needs aside in order to get along with everyone else. We had a great time skiing and just being together. One of the best times we had was playing poker together one night.
When we got back from Colorado, Ryan and I left the next morning for Austin and the boy’s tournament. It was quite a bit different. For the most part Ryan and I were together for five days. We did stay with Teague’s sis Wid and her family and got to visit them at night and in the mornings. The rest of the days were filled with some of the best basketball in the state, finding our way around Austin, deciding what to do between games, and choosing places to go eat. All in all it was a great time, and I really enjoyed being with Ryan. There was certainly nothing significant that happened between us while we were together, but we were together and that was significant enough.
While skiing we went to Church hid away in the mountains. It was full of people the night we went. Most had skiwear on, but all seemed to be on the older side. A man and woman did the music. They missed a few notes and seemed to be struggling at times, but I couldn’t help but give thanks that they were there to help us worship God. After the service we were welcomed and greeted. While in Austin, Ryan and I went to a Church that was also hidden away, but this time in the piney woods of Austin. This Church was full of youth and seemed to be in the mist of growth. We met in a sort of fellowship hall that they seemed to be using as a sanctuary until they got a main facility built. Young people helped lead the singing and it was truly beautiful. They seemed to be using their gifts of God to the fullest. As I looked around it was easy for me to imagine the prosperity of these people. What was obvious for me to see was their love and devotion to God.
The beauty of God’s creation was evident to me as I drove through the Rocky Mountains. He also became apparent to me in the hustle and bustle of Austin. Will I notice and pay Him any mind in Gruver? He is everywhere I just have to remember to look. Even during Spring Break.
